About Barbara Nyaliemaa Mosima
Barbara EL Wilson’s journey began with a solid educational foundation in the arts. As a Howard University’s Drama Department graduate with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, Barbara has a rich background in theatre, acting, and storytelling. She has taught at the Duke Ellington School for the Performing Arts, nurturing young talents and inspiring future artists.
A Multi-Talented Performer
Barbara’s career spans various facets of the performing arts. An accomplished actress, comedienne, playwright, author, and storyteller, she has performed extensively throughout the Washington metropolitan area and the East Coast. Barbara’s storytelling workshops for the Girl Scouts of America and the Outreach Children’s Theatre Company’s touring productions testify to her dedication to the craft.

With her unique fusion of improvisation, movement, and comic overture, Barbara has worked alongside some of the industry's most prominent names, including Ruby Dee, Ossie Davis, and Patti LaBelle. Her versatility and commitment to her craft shine through in every performance, delighting audiences wherever she goes.
The Birth of Sugarfoots™
In 1992, Barbara founded Sugarfoots™, a company dedicated to designing cultural soft-sewn rag dolls in the natural shades of Cocoa, Ginger, and Cinnamon. These handcrafted dolls reflect the rich cultural heritage Barbara cherishes. In 2009, she extended her creative vision by launching the Sugarfoots™ Performing Arts Summer Camp, aimed at children aged 5 through 13.
Author and Educator
Barbara has authored three children's books, rich in cultural storytelling, which are annually adapted into stage productions for the performing arts camp. Her work has been celebrated in The Washington Post, numerous local news broadcasts, and three times in Essence Magazine. Barbara's relentless dedication to fostering creativity and cultural appreciation through her dolls and stories continues to make a significant impact.
